U&I Zine Issue 1: Wtf is the ‘Rituals’ theme?

RITUALS

This is our first zine release, and the night is shaped around the idea of Ritual, which in our daily lives manifests as the small, strange, repetitive acts we use to mark time, change, and becoming. There will be speakers, an open mic for sign-up, and of course live music.

For the zine, literally anything goes with what is written above. We aren’t going to cut anything; if anything, we will do a short version in print and have the full here on the blog.

For the community art activation (like the graffiti wall), we’re building a shrine to our past selves.

🕯️ Ideas we came up with for possible offerings (Bring One, Bring Anything)

  • A photograph you’ve carried for too long

  • A printed screenshot (text thread, notes app thought, old Instagram bio)

  • A note you never sent

  • A piece of art you made and forgot about

  • A page torn from a notebook

  • A program, ticket, wristband, or receipt

  • The wrapper of a candy you used to love and now hate

  • A key that doesn’t open anything anymore

  • A pressed flower or dried leaf

  • A map, directions, or something with an address on it

  • A copy of a syllabus, assignment, or rejection email

  • A list of plans that didn’t happen

  • Something from your childhood bedroom

  • Something you meant to throw away but didn’t

  • A fragment: half a letter, a sentence, a drawing

  • A symbol of a habit you’re trying to unlearn

  • A fortune, horoscope, or prediction that was wrong

  • A photo or representation of someone you don’t talk to anymore

  • An object tied to a version of you that no longer fits something you’ve outgrown, forgotten, or almost lost.

Offerings can be real, symbolic, or improvised so be creative and come add to it or come witness it!
